Schizoporella cornualis

Morphology: 

Schizoporella cornualis is an encrusting bryozoan that forms broad, thick sheets composed of a single, or multiple layers of autozooids. Colonies are white in colour and often have small projections from the surface. Autozooids are broad, rectangular to irregularly polygonal and convex. They are typically 0.58-0.69 by 0.43-0.59 mm.

Distribution: 

Schizoporella cornualis is currently only known from around the Scilly Islands off the western end of the English Channel. The species has only recently be distinguished from the Mediterranean species Schizoporella longirostris.

Habitat: 

The species is able to colonise stones and shells. It occurs in offshore waters down to at least 100 m.
