Escharina hyndmanni (Johnston, 1847)

Morphology: 

Escharina hyndmanni is an encrusting bryozoan that forms small, irregular encrustations. Autozooids are oval to rhomboidal, broad and flat. They are 0.6-0.74 by 0.36-0.44 mm.

Distribution: 

Escharina hyndmanni is a widespread bryozoan off the western shores of the British Isles, although it is not common. It ranges from Shetland to Madeira and the western Mediterranean. It extends into the English Channel, but not to the North Sea.

Habitat: 


The species is able to colonise hard substrates in offshore waters out to the edge of the continental shelf.
