Escharina johnstoni (Quelch, 1884)

Morphology: 

Escharina johnstoni is an encrusting bryozoan that forms small, discoid or irregular patches composed of a single layer of autozooids. Autozooids are oval elongate and strongly convex. They are 0.5-0.7 by 0.3-0.4 mm, and lack oral spines.

Distribution: 

Escharina johnstoni is distributed along the western coasts of the British Isles, from Shetland to the western approaches to the English Channel, the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Straits of Gibraltar.

Habitat: 

The species is able to colonise small stones and shells in offshore waters, possibly ranging to the edge of the continental shelf.
