General description:
Bryozoans in this family form encrusting unilaminar colonies. Frontal shield cryptocystidean, thickly calcified. Primary orifice deeply immersed, surrounded by a peristome. Typically with a medio-proximal notch. Ovicell present. Avicularia, when present, adventitious.
