Schizomavella ochracea
Morphology:
Schizomavella ochracea is an encrusting bryozoan that forms broad spreading sheets, often exceeding 100 mm2. Colonies are composed of a single layer of autozooids. Autozooids are flat, hexagonal to irregularly polygonal.
Distribution:
The precise geographic range of S. ochracea is uncertain, owing to former confusion with Schizomavella auriculata. The species is known from the Mediterranean coast of Spain and from Malta. In the British Isles, it is known from Cornwall, but nowhere north of this location.
Habitat:
The species is able to colonise hard substrates in subtidal waters.
